Hello

I'm Alejandra, an award-winning film critic, writer, and archivist based in Austin, TX.

About

My work in libraries and archives has centered on accessibility through digital stewardship. I digitized the entirety of the Radclyffe Hall and Una Vincenzo, Lady Troubridge Papers at the Harry Ransom Center, and helped lead the project team. The project made over 60,000 items available online for researchers and won the 2022 Archival Award of Excellence from the Texas Historical Records Advisory Board.

I have been a Freelance Writer for various publications since 2016, specializing in film criticism, features, and pop culture articles from a Tejana and Latine perspective.  In 2022, I became a member of the Austin Film Critics Association and have since been published in The Austin Chronicle, TheWrap, Letterboxd Journal, and RogerEbert.com, among others. In 2024, I had the honor of being voted Best Film Critic in The Austin Chronicle's Readers' Poll. That same year, I was also selected as part of the Sundance Press Inclusion Initiative, as well as the Toronto International Film Festival's Press Inclusion Initiative. Both initiatives provide financial assistance to a select number of critics from marginalized communities so they can attend and cover the festivals. I earned my BA in Journalism and a BS in Radio-Television-Film from the University of Texas at Austin, focusing on media studies, as well as a Masters Degree in Information Sciences, also from the University of Texas at Austin.

I love writing, reading, watching movies, and exploring the way social and cultural issues are reflected through media.
